Regional Flood Frequency Analysis: A case study in eastern Iceland

This study explores the application of the so-called index flood method, for estimating design floods at ungauged natural catchments in eastern Iceland. The method is first developed with observed flood data at available gaugin stations in the region, and then with simulated flow series generated with a distributed hydrological model within the gauged catchments. Results indicate that the method is applicable in the study region and capable of estimating flood quantiles with reasonable accuracy at ungauged sites.
