Weather warnings and precautions

Here in Iceland we are all used to all kinds of weather. When bad weather hits, it is necessary to be prepared.

  • Secure loose items: Secure or remove garden furniture, grills, heaters, and trampolines that could be blown away by the wind and cause damage.
  • Close windows and doors: Ensure all windows and doors are properly closed to prevent them from opening or breaking.
  • Secure roof panels and other loose objects: Make sure that roof panels, gutters, and other structures are firmly fastened to prevent them from detaching in the wind.
  • Avoid traveling in bad weather: If possible, postpone travel or avoid traveling during the storm. If travel is necessary, stay updated on weather forecasts and road conditions.

Stormy weather can also affect the monitoring of seismic activity and response times in case of earthquakes or volcanic eruptions, as strong winds, sleet, and snow can interfere with earthquake measurements and reduce the accuracy of GPS data on land movements.

Stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and warnings and follow the advice of authorities to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
