The Icelandic Road ans Coastal Administration has purchased old Þingborg, located on the Ring Road (1) east of Selfoss. The purchase price is 72.5 million ISK. The reason for the purchase is that the house is located within the road sanctuaries of the current Ring Road and in the expected future of the Ring Road alignment. Construction is planned to widen the Ring Road from Selfoss all the way to Markarfljót river in several phases.
The project is planned for the second and third periods of the unapproved transport plan 2029-2038. As part of those plans, it was decided to buy Þingborg when it became clear that the municipality of Flóahreppur had decided to put the building up for sale.
Work on preparing the first part of this project has begun at the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration. In the coming years, the building will therefore have to make way for improvements to transport infrastructure that will improve transport and road safety in this area.
The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration will strive to have good relations with the tenants who use the building. The Road Administration enters into existing agreements as is normal.
